Welsh Kennel Club Championship Show 2017 Critique

Thank you to the exhibitors for the lovely entry, there were quite a few that I would have been happy to award a CC to, such was the quality and some decisions were close. It was a memorable day for my first CC appointment with a great atmosphere, I think in general movement has improved a lot since I last judged the breed at the Limited Show.

VD (2)

1 Baumann, Multi Ch Regalflight Tarloch. 7 and a half year old light grey brindle who moves like a youngster, I liked his type and he is presented in good hard condition, very balanced and good angulation front and rear, he clearly has a good attitude to showing and gives his all. Well boned with the best of heads, I would like more arch over the loin, topline tends to flatten on move, well defined underline Best Veteran.

2 Wilkinson, Sireadh Chase. Another very worthy veteran of similar age, half brother to winner but not the forehand construction, good bone, his head is lovely, good topline and croup, he moved well and has strong hindquarters but would prefer more length to second thigh.

PD (1)

1 Peach, Tiobraid Solo Venture To Kilbourne. Very sound and free moving dark grey brindle puppy of 10 months, excellent head with dark eye and neat ears, balanced angulation front and rear, good coat and well off for bone with excellent topline, very promising just needs to deepen in chest. Best Puppy

JD (2)

1 Peach, Kilbourne Lloyd. Typical young male of 13 months, looking quite finished for age, excellent coat and well balanced, super head with dark eye, ears well set, neck is strong, shoulder is well laid with good return of upper arm. Topline is good and falls nicely away over croup and he has well angulated hindquarters. Moves well in all directions.

2 McKenzie, Ardneish Picotin. Youngster of 13 months, he needs to settle, very raw in comparison to winner, he needs to develop in chest and is lacking co ordination on the move. I liked his head, eye and well placed rose shaped ears, he will take time.

PGD (7,2)

1 Baumann, Packway Loxley Norton. Super young boy of 20 months, the most exquisite of heads with dark eye, strong neck into very good forehand construction, good depth and correct width all through, good topline and underline, strong well muscled and angulated hindquarters, sound and easy on the move.

2 Thomas, Greyflax Blueberry Hill. 17 months of good quality and with a nice outline standing, particularly liked his head, strong neck and topline with well arched loin and nicely angulated rear quarters, would prefer more spring to pastern and return of upper arm. Moved out well on a long stride.

3 Pursglove, Stranwith Roag.

LD (3)

1 Grimshaw, Greyflax The Jazz Singer To Jamalison. I loved this 3 year old boy for type, classic head with reachy neck into very good forehand construction, particularly liked his topline and drooping well angulated hindquarters, good length from hip to hock, excellent balance and good coat, he is very sound and easy on the move.

2 Pink, Greyhawks Romanie Drom. 4 year old quality hound, good coat with typical head, pleasing expression and strong underjaw. Nice topline and good strength and width to rear quarters, I preferred the forehand of the winner, he moved soundly and free on a long stride.

3 Forbes-Hamilton, Meneghy's Talek.

OD (4)

1 Finnett and Heathcote, Ch Hyndsight Desperado. Balanced and very shapely 3 year old, very masculine head and lovely expression, superb length of neck and his front assembly is well constructed and angulated, chest is deep with good forechest. He has good bone with correct well arched and strong loin, powerful, drooping and well muscled hindquarters, short hocks which he uses to advantage. He is very sound and moves true on a long stride in all directions. CC and BOB and shortlisted in the group. 2 Peach, Ch Rubeus Hagrid To Kilbourne. Just over 2 year old who I loved as a puppy, today he looked very immature in comparison to the winner, he is a lovely mover covering the ground with good reach and drive. Excellent head with dark eye and small rose shaped ears, he is balanced with good front and rear angulation.

3 Helps, Beardswood Quinlan.

VB (1)

1 Seymour-Jackson, Cassacre Aelfrida of Ghiltan. Lovely lady of 7 and a half years who has a very nice outline, typical head with good expression and neat ears, she is balanced with good angulation. Sound but not giving of her best on the move today.

JB (6)

1 Grimshaw, Hyndsight Long Cool Woman To Jamalison. Coming up to 18 months, lovely bitch the daughter of the reserve dog CC, she has the best of heads with dark eye and good ears, reachy neck into good front assembly with depth of chest, well laid shoulder and good forechest, strong and wide rear quarters she moved well in all directions.

2 Taylor, Ormanstar Secret Rumour. Another lovely bitch but very immature by comparison, good shape with lots of scope, particularly good hindquarters with angulation and width, good coat and bone and she moved very well in all directions.

3 Adams, Ardneish Pearl.

PGB (8,1)

1 Taylor, Minerva Mcgonagall Of Ormanstar. This 2 year old definitely has an air about her, gorgeous head, rose shaped ears and dark eye, excellent coat and well off for bone, good topline and underline, she has balanced angulation, she won today on her sound free movement in all directions.

2 Helps, Beardswood Taisie. 2 and a half year old of lovely type, with a nice outline, and covering the ground well on the move, good depth and spring of rib, correct topline and good angulation front and rear, I preferred the head of the winner.

3 Lucas and Dargonne, Packway Little Loxley.

LB (7,1)

1 Finnett and Heathcote, Hyndsight Mandolin Wind. Very beautiful and true moving dark grey brindle bitch looking quite finished for her age, she has substance and is beautifully balanced, has a feminine head with dark eye and well shaped ears, she is strong and elegant, has good bone, depth and correct topline, and drooping hindquarters with good width.

2 Peach, Blixten Star To Kilbourne (Imp) Just 2 years another typical bitch of quality, classic head with dark eye and lovely expression, excellent shoulder placement, correct topline and tailset, well bodied with spring of rib and balanced angulation. Moved out well on an even stride.

3 Bailey, Greyflax Lady Sings The Blu's.

OB (7,2)

1 Wragg, Neroche Jeska. A bitch of great quality who felt good under my hands, she was by far the best mover in this class, no exaggerations anywhere with a feminine head, strong neck which flows into an excellent topline, shoulders are well laid, chest is deep with ribs well sprung. Balanced angulation front and rear, pleased to award her the CC.

2 Bailey, Greyflax Teen Spirit. 3 years old she has a lot of scope and stands over the ground, aptly named as today she looked like a teenager who was not making the most of her lovely lines. Her head is typical with tiny rose shaped ears and excellent expression. Her shoulder is well laid, I would like a bit more return to her upper arm, she has a good topline and excellent rearquarters. Moves well with reach and drive.

3 Lucas and Dargonne, Hyndsight Reason To Believe.
